Allen Friedman House Bannockburn, Illinois

The Friedman house was designed in 1956 and was one of the last that Wright built before his death.  It is located north of Chicago in an area that requires 5 acre lots for each home.  That makes it so you feel like you’re out in the country, even when you’re in town.  It appears that the 5 acre rule may have been relaxed somewhat since there are other homes in the area near this house.

FLW Drive-by.

I would like to formally apologize for the photograph given above.  This is as much of a photo as you can legally get of the Friedman house.  The road has no trespassing signs on either side and there is no place to stop.  It was obvious that these people did not want to be disturbed.  I did not disturb them.  I snapped this photo without even slowing my car.  Obviously it was raining.

I do, however, have a savior.  A person who wished not to be identified was involved with the sale of the Friedman house a few years ago has sent me the real estate photos of the home.  The home was on the market for quite some time.  Back in 2001, it appeared to have been sold.   The buyer intended to demolish the home and build a large “McMansion” in its place.  A public outcry put the kibosh on the sale.  It took another while to find a suitable buyer.  It finally sold to the current owners for about $1,000,000 (the asking price was $1,100,000).

Mr. Friedman is still alive.  He is in his 80s at this point.  After the most recent sale, he visited the home and was moved to tears when he walked through the home.
