Davidson House
Built in 1908, the Davidson house was the last of the homes built for Larkin employees. The house is unique in many ways. In his book “The Vision of Frank Lloyd Wright”, Thomas Heinz describes that the living room was not oriented towards the street, but rather to the side of the house. At the time of the building, this seems to have been a great idea because it gave a great view of the surrounding woods. It didn’t take too long, however, for someone to build a home on the lot next door and they did so quite close to the lot line, thus eliminating the view.
Garage and Driveway
This is one of Wright’s “Tall Living Room” homes where the art glass windows are 1 1/2 stories high. It is similar to the Isabel Roberts house in River Forest, Illinois that was built about the same time, though the Roberts house had a more traditional orientation of the living room.
According to Storrer, the Davidson house is split level in back with the utility and workspace on the lower floor and the bedrooms above.
