Most snow rides in this area look like this:
Often we wish we could ride around in weather like this
Awesome fit on my new custom Wily, eh?

This ride was really amazing. The ice conditions were perfect. In 18 years of riding in this area, I've never experienced ice this good. It was strong enough to support my weight so that I didn't break through. It gave GREAT traction for riding, but it was so slippery that you could hardly walk on it. That was kind of strange.
One climb in particular out of the Riverbend Parking lot had seen a lot of sunshine. It was glare ice. We made it about 1/2 way up the climb when momentum gave out. Then Jason and I tipped over and slid all the way back to the bottom. Chris had studded tires (and he's pretty much a stud anyways). He made it quite a bit further up the hill before he stopped. He managed to stop, turn around and ride back down.
The photos with my web address on them were taken by me. The ones without the frame or watermark were taken by Chris.

Here's Chris hopping up a snowbank on his cross bike.

This is one of the steep sections in Riverbend. Chris fishtailed a little to make the photos a little more impressive.
